Open Question: would you answer yes or no with a brief explanation for your answer.....will try to mke this long story short?

had baby with boyfriend of 8years....weve never lived together, ive got my own house, he lives with his brother.....when baby was 4months old he said he wanted to make a proper go of things and move in with me...fine, i was happy to give it a go......it lasted 2 weeks....he clashed horribly with 1 of my older sons (nearly 15), he's a lovely happy helpful lad, i give him a lot of leeway because he does so much for me and turn a blind eye to things like smoking...anyhoot, the b/f literally dun nothing but pick on him, and bless my boy, i watched him bite his tongue and keep out of his way just to keep the peace, well to cut a long story short, there was a big bust up after 2 weeks, bf actually swore at my son and gave me an ultimatum....either i sent my son 2 live with his dad or he was leaving and going back to his brothers....well thats a no-brainer, so told bf that i respected his decision to go 'home' and at least we'd given it a go.....things were difficult between us....we agreed that he wud take the baby 1 day in the week overnight, bringing him home in the morning b4 work and also on a friday night, bringing him home saturday morning....anyway....heres the thing....he's stuck to that but insists he loves me and wants to be a couple....his brother picks the baby up in the week so the only time i see him is literallly in the 5mins it takes to drop the baby off in the morning during the week, and when he brings the baby back saturday morning he wants the 3 of us to spend the day together and always wants to sleep over mine on a saturday and sunday night....it sorta feels to me like he cant/wont be a proper boyfriend...but wants the the luxury of my home (& my bed) at the weekend to relax and av a drink , watch my sky+ and spend some 'family time' with our baby...dont get me wrong, he'll buy dinner 4 us saturay night and do a sunday roast, always gets me a bottle of wine and anything else i want...heres the question...is he doing the best that he can, should i accept him for the person that he is and just do my own thing mon-fri, spending my weekend with him, or is this pathetic and unacceptable and way beneath me as a quite lovely lady....yes or no...for or against.....opinions much appreciated more

Open Question: Luxury dog crate for a rescue dog? Pictures?

i keep reading and seeing videos of the puppy market in korea and how they eat dog there and frankly i don't care if it's their culture, it's disgusting and wrong. i know i sound ignorant but i watched a video of a dog being tortured, hung and beaten with a hammer and it's the first video thats ever made me cry. another dog was in behind cement and died.. human contact made him cry out of happiness and it just breaks my heart. it really, really does. thinking about jindos being used for me, that could have been my dog.. and thats what makes me even more upset. it's just so wrong to rob an innocent creature of their life, they have no right. anyways, i want to know provide my dog with the absolute best, to in a way feel better about myself. i feel like i take good care of it but i could do better. he sleeps in a crate, he's very attached to his crate. here is a picture of him in his crate: http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/2605/p6280008d.jpg it's difficult to see but it's filled with soft pillows and a very large teddy bear and a small one and a blanket. im taking a sewing class and i thought it would be a good idea to kind of present him with a luxury crate, for example covering the top part with a sheet or curtains so it provides darkness and he can sleep better, just making it comfortable. would this help him settle a little bit better and have him know that although he was abused twice before and switched homes that i will not do that? here is him: http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/4628/p6280003.jpg http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/9576/p6180007q.jpggood care of him*something a little like this: https://www.caninecottagedesigns.com/images/dsc01454.jpg except his crate is much bigger. more

Open Question: Which laptop is better for college & playtime?

I'm between this HP Pavilion: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9377104&st=g60-445dx&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1218094855118 And this Toshiba Satellite: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9371547&st=toshiba+a505-s6960&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1218093383198 I'm NOT worried about carrying a hefty laptop, but I am interested in some gaming- Oblivion, Spore, WoW, Fable, and some other older titles. I know both are great for everything else & will be great homes to my music collection. I'm *not* buying a desktop for gaming, wish I could, but I just can't have the luxury of both and I hate "netbooks". I am not looking for "brand bias", but rather honest and intelligible opinions. Would it be worth buying a 8-12 cell battery for the HP to extend it's battery life? And is there going to be a huge difference between HP's Nvidia graphics, and the Toshiba's Intel graphics? B/G Wi-fi is compatible with my campus, but is it worth it to have N as well? My budget is 800 including tax. Thank you for reviewing my question(s)! :) more

Resolved Question: Do you think children should be allowed to fly in first class?

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Poll: Overwhelming majority want families with kids segregated in own section Dad air traveler: "No one under 12 should be in first class" Mom: "These questions about kids and flying are frankly disrespectful" Airlines don't have age limits for first-class seating (Tribune Media Services) -- The most embarrassing moment of my life? That's easy Our son, Aren, had just turned one and we were flying from New York to London on an airline whose name I've promised never to mention. We'd managed to score an upgrade -- seats 1A and 1B -- and to ensure Aren had a pleasant trip, we offered him a nip of Benadryl. Most kids fall asleep when they're given an antihistamine. Not mine. The medication had the exact opposite effect: Aren turned hyper, tearing down the aisle of the first-class cabin, shrieking and bumping other passengers. He woke up the person sitting next to us and drooled on the passenger behind us. All of which brings me to the issue at hand: Kids in first class. Should we or shouldn't we? And if so, when? Allow me to state my completely unbiased opinion right up front. No. We should not. At least not mine. I downgraded myself on the flight home, that's how badly I felt for the other London-bound passengers that day. What was I thinking, trying to bring a toddler into first class? I'm not alone. An overwhelming majority of air travelers to a recent survey by Skytrax -- 9 in 10 respondents -- said families with children should be seated in a separate section on flights, presumably not in first class. Another poll by corporate travel agency Carlson Wagonlit found that business travelers, who are most frequently found in the business- and first-class cabins, believe crying babies are the second-most annoying aspect of air travel. The first? Air travelers who carry too much luggage on board. Several years ago, a United Airlines flight attendant just came out and said it: no children in first class. A passenger disagreed, sued the airline -- and lost. In my last column, we argued about whether kids belong on planes, and resolved that although many of us would like to keep the little ones from flying, it's just not practical. Now, we're having a more nuanced and civil discussion about children in the good seats. Well, sort of. I asked some of my readers for their opinions of kids in first and got an earful. "No, no, no, no, no," says Mona Palmer, an administrative assistant from Friendswood, Texas. "First-class tickets are too expensive to have the investment destroyed by an unruly kid whose parents think they've paid for the privilege of ignoring their kids' rotten behavior." The other side of this argument is equally vehement. "Give me a break," says Jennifer Thomas, a mom who describes herself as the owner of a public relations firm. "These questions about kids and flying are frankly disrespectful. Let's see, kids in first class or terrorists allowed to fly on planes? Or how about just plain rude adults who take to the friendly skies? I would take a child any day over previously mentioned. Why not ask questions about those two audiences?" Kids! Kids! Can't we just get along? Instead of spending the rest of this story fighting (as entertaining as that might be to some of you, dear readers) let's instead focus on three solutions to this problem. No children in first class One of the most persuasive arguments for limiting first class to adults is that the premium cabin is essentially an adult product. Which is to say, it's difficult for a youngster to appreciate a wine list or a gourmet meal. It's just no place for kids. Plus, it's pricey -- even if you're using miles to upgrade. Rosanne Skopp, a grandmother who says she "really loves kids," puts it this way: "If I'm going to be sitting next to a screaming baby, at least let me feel good that I haven't paid for a first-class ticket, only to be tortured." No airline that I'm aware of has banned children from first class or business class, but it wouldn't be accurate to say any of them have opened their arms wide to their junior passengers, either. Like a five-star restaurant or a luxury resort, the first-class cabin is not particularly welcoming to young fliers. Or, for that matter, their parents. Age limit for premium seats Here's another suggestion: If we can't ban minors, then let's at least prevent the littlest passengers from sitting "up front." Babies and toddlers are too disruptive to the other passengers, who are paying a premium for their seats. "No one under 12 should be in first class," says Richard French, an anesthesiologist from Christchurch, New Zealand, who by way of full disclosure, is himself a father. "I pick that age because kids are essentially self-caring by that age and that is the age that airlines start charging an adult fare. It is really depressing when you have treated yourself to a very expensive farThe question isn't too detailed, it is one sentence long. I added the news story about the topic to go along with the question, obviously. more

Open Question: Do you think assets should be taken into account?

If someone is getting any public assistance... should you have to first get rid of your cell phones, get rid of any luxury items like oh- say a boat? Close out your credit cards? Stuff like that? I see way too many people with all these luxuries that eat up a lot of their pay checks and then turn around and cry poverty. That bothers me because I am home with 3 kids and my hubby and I both drive used cars. We have NO credit cards. We NEVER go on vacation. We don't have a boat or eat much in the way of convenience food. My kids clothes come from WalMart or Good Will. We go without because we have a huge amount taken out of my husband's check for taxes and because we have bills to pay. Before I would dream of accepting any assistance from anyone I personally would sell my vehicle since my hubby and I could *and in fact did up until very recently* share a vehicle. I would sell a boat if I happened to be wealthy enough to own one. I would get rid of a cell phone *although I don't actually have a cell phone since they're expensive* I certainly wouldn't be texting anyone. I would get rid of cable, internet, etc. I would sell anything I didn't absolutely need for myself. I buy used toys for my kids too. I guess it just irritates me when people cry poverty yet on the other hand ride around on a boat that they probably SHOULD sell since they very clearly can't afford it. Am I right? more

Open Question: What houses affordable on 200K income?

I'm studying to be an anesthesiologist at the moment in medical school, but I'm clueless on matters of money. After taxes, my future family will be able to generate about ~190K of annual income (the taxes just kill it). I was wondering, what would kind of home would I be able to afford on my income? I'm not saying that I'm wanting to live in the fastlane of luxury, but just wondering what my family will realistically be able to afford. I know there are many variables that probably apply, but could you give me a ballpark number in terms of house cost? more

Voting Question: How do you cope with this? Venting, but i would like some advice still!?

Well my parents are getting a divorce, I mean it was expected, because they fought everyday and they both cheated on each other. My father might go to jail, for being falsely accused of something. Such a long story, I won't get into it. But this court thing has cost my family so much money, we're broke now. We were once rich...but now we're not. my brother and I might have to quit some things we do, just so my mother can afford "luxuries" for herself. My mother just told me that we're moving THIS YEAR, into a some place we can afford. My mother, brother, and I. My father won't live with me and my other siblings are going to be living on their own, or with their spouse. It's possible I might move out of town, which would be horrible, because I'm terribly shy around new people. And I have all of my friends here at home. My family doesn't care about me AT ALL. They have admitted that much. My brother's gf is having a baby due on MY birthday. And my sister is also having a baby this summer. So the attention will be all on the babies, not that it was ever on me anyway. I cut myself, I can't help it, and I am thinking of suicide. Probably not anytime soon, I try convincing myself not to, but it's hard. To top it off, I have no real friends, or anyone for that matter, to talk about this with. Sorry I'm venting. I needed to get it off my chest. Any advice, similar situations? You can be completely rude to me about "complaining" about this, if you want. I don't really care, I just needed to get this off my chest and I want advice. Please? PS I'm 14. more

Voting Question: I receive social security benefits for me and my son when my husband died. Why does mine stop at age 16.?

I have been a stay at home mom since we became foster parents and adopted a son. My husband made enough money so I didn't have to work. I stayed home and took care of the foster children during the day. After adopting a child from the program and there several issues we stopped doing that and moved back to where we were born and raised. A few years later my husband died. We were married 20 years. I recieve benefits for me and my son. When he turns 16 my benefits will stop. My problem is I recieve excellent benefits now but will not be able to find a job that will pay me what I am recieving now. I need that income to survive. My husband left me with a huge amount of debt that I had no idea he had racked up and made me the co owner of these accounts. He had the bills mailed to a post office box. I am not sure what to do when my money runs out. I have been looking for part time work now because I can only work a certain amount on social security at this time. I have been very unsuccessful in the job hunting. Evertyone says I have had too big of gap in when I was last employed with a company. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I have no nest egg or savings either, Every dime goes to pay debts. We have no money left over for and luxuries orvacations or stuff like that.....Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Writing opinions please?

Isabelle Tomkin, I hate my name. It sounds like an old lady who knits sweaters, and drinks prune juice. Sadly, the name Isabelle Tomkin has been all over the news. I can’t seem to escape them, those men with flashing cameras, so we’re moving to Connecticut. I’m losing all my friends for a house in the middle of nowhere. Who ever mentions Connecticut anyway? It’s not like a place that you’d go to on a luxury vacation. You’d go there if you needed to escape from the paparazzi like I did, no ones going to remember me if I go back. It stinks back here, sitting in a rusty old mini van. Gary poking my back every five seconds from the back seat, with Dad trying to completely stay out of it. Oh god, I miss the limos, the flashing lights, the movie premieres, especially my home. Not my house, the runway, I miss smiling my smile, and walking down the black runway in gorgeous dresses and perfect outfits. My make up done by professionals everyday, and my agent calling twenty-four seven booking deals for me. Why am I in a mini van then? My dad refuses to let me live “the good life”, I’m a regular teenager, sitting back here in this car. I can still imagine the gorgeous black ball gown Dad refuses to let me bring from Los Angeles, it’s in storage, its all in storage. Except for what I’m wearing today, a fitted purple mini dress from New York & Company. Even my jet is in storage, we rode coach on the way here. The only thing I can absolutely keep from California is my teacup poodle named Bijou, meaning Jewel. She sits in my lap and lives in my purse all the time, to bad I wont have a purse to bring her around in here. I hold her under my chin, and stroke her lovingly. This is just the beginning of my story, I just wrote another paragraph, it'll be on my deviant art soon though, feel free to check it out: http://shellnutcracka.deviantart.com more

Resolved Question: PLease read an excerpt from my short story?

I wrote this 6 months ago when I was in the middle of 6th grade... The point was to show the effects that war takes on our veterans even when they come home PLease critique grammar language and impact... thank you Pa went into the small, poorly lit bathroom the two of them shared. He had always intended to change that repulsive shade of mint green in there, but there never seemed to be enough money for basic items, much less for such frivolous luxuries. He laughed as he picked up the little, yellow rubber duck from inside of the tub. Regardless of how many times he told Josie to put it away after she was finished bathing, she would be a stubborn child and wouldn’t listen. No matter how much she looked like her mother, she would always be her father’s daughter. “Squeak, squeak,” Pa turned the knob of the faucet and water flooded the sink. He opened the medicine cabinet and a ceramic soap dispenser spilled suddenly from one of the shelves, crashing violently into the sink, leaving sharp and dangerous pieces everywhere. Pa’s hand began to tremble with fear; his entire body began to convulse destructively. Then, he just stared with the same shocked expression he had when saw his partner die while serving in the army. There was an explosive thunder. The shot whistled vociferously through the air, reaching the head of its target. There was blood everywhere and tears everywhere else… Pa approached the medicine cabinet and looked upon his shaking reflection. He flung the cabinet open and groped for his Prozac. He held the whole bottle to his mouth and took the six tablets that were left inside. He snatched a knife wrapped in cloth from off of the top shelf. He knew if he cut the front of his neck- he’d be finished with this, with life. He’d seen it done to the enemy a million times before. Pa held the knife to his throat and took two steps to see his pathetic face in the mirror. He stepped on something soft. “Quack,” Josie’s duck seemed to scream, the knife still clenched firmly in his palms. Pa began to tear softly as he took several gasping breaths, and then dashed the knife to the floor like a filthy rag. “Now he was a coward too,” he thought as he slithered into bed. Josie would never know how many times Pa had laid just like this, in his bed, on his back on the verge of suicide. Never would she know what he had lost and never would she understand his sacrifice. “What a lucky girl,” he thought quietly as he drifted into sleep.omg im sorry i meant 9th grade... more

Resolved Question: Mums, how much does your hubby earn? Money troubles?

*Sorry this probably isn't the right section but... When it comes to your families finances, do you take an active role? Do you know where your lives are at in terms of your security? I have no idea. I don't know how much my partner makes (he won't tell me) and every time I ask about our financial situation it leads to a fight. I'm a stay at home mum, I do uni through correspondence and I work 2 nights per week (purely for the social side) which earns about $150, which I'm free to spend on whatever I like, be it myself or put towards bills. My partner owns his own business, we live comfortably, with 4 cars (trying to sell 2), our own home, and all the luxuries etc - however, he had many of these things before we got together. I know that he lost $50, 000 in the stock market last week, and I'm starting to get worried - I'm pretty sure we are in debt, but again, I have no idea by how much (as he refuses to talk about money.) What do I do? Just stop worrying and leave it to him? What would you do?Also, I don't think he is very good with money, I think he buys a lot of expensive things we don't need, instead of putting it in to savings or something - but HE earns the money, so there's not much I can really say or do about it. more

Resolved Question: Can you help me with this problem?

He's sitting at home every day, with me - because I'm on my holidays - he's dumbly staring at TV, watching stupid channels, hopefully he's not drinking beer! Oh my, he yells at me, my mom, even our dogs, I feel so miserable. And his behavior is just pissing me off. He doesn't shave, he smokes a lot - in two words - he looks like a vagabond. Sorry if I'm rude, but this situation is freaking me off! I try to be nice with him, our family - me my mom and brother - we support him, but it seems like he doesn't appreciate that and I know he's depressed - but don't you think he should try to move on and find another job? Don't sit at home and **** holidays and everything! I feel like he wants us to get out from the first class into economy class - but not in a plane, in the whole life! Please, tell me what to do? I'm so upset and tired of ignoring things. Thanks. more

Don't sit at home and shit holidays and everything! I feel like he wants us to get out from the first class into economy class - but not in a plane, in the whole life! Please, tell me what to do? I'm so upset and tired of ignoring things. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: How can I limit my sugar temptations? I'm beginning to worry...?

Well my family has been struggling financially lately, but my Dad decided to get my brother and I a little surprise on his way home from work about 2 days ago -- a 12 pack of Barq's root beer. I was so happy because something like soda was a luxury for the time being. Anyways, I just realized that I drank 6 cans yesterday, and 1 this morning. I know how bad that is, but I just love it. It's such a mellow-making drink. My mom has diabetes though, so I'm worried that this might happen too. I can't have diet soda, because the sweeteners make me sick. How can I get rid of these temptations? Am I already in trouble now (diabetes)??? more

Resolved Question: Can you please proofread this?

“Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country,” were the words echoed by a famous martyr, John F. Kennedy. His words inspired a young generation of Americans to give back to their communities. People have a responsibility to make this country a better place for all to live and make sacrifices for those who don’t have privileges. His words still holds true. The value of community service is important, it benefits everyone, and it’s my way of life. Some people believe that volunteering is boring and worthless. However, this assumption is wrong. Volunteering is one of the best ways to reduce depression, make friends, and gain experience needed for a job. Many colleges and employers want people with experience, the skills that could be earned through volunteering. Volunteering benefits everyone; it raises confidence in the workplace, it builds character, reduces time constraint on employees, and it’s a great way to give back to communities. The benefit of community service outweighs the negatives. Cynthia Ozick once said, “We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.” Cynthia meant that one should appreciate their life, I would agree with her. I’m thankful for that I live in the United States and to live in the land of opportunity where food, money, and jobs are abundant. For some people who live the life of luxury, they become narrow minded that they see nothing below their lifestyles. A world away, there is a place that is hidden behind a curtain and if the curtain were to be lifted reality would be shown: poverty, wars, genocide, the problems are manmade, but they can be solved by man. I had volunteered at Regions Hospital for almost 2 years and I made many friends and gained experience. With the experience at Regions Hospital, I was able to get a job at a nursing home to save up for my future. “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country,” asks us to examine a question, what can we do to improve the lives of others and to become an equal contributor to this nation? As the essay as shown, volunteering is important, it benefits everyone, it builds character, and earns experience. The skills acquired by volunteering are needed to make America a better place for everyone. more

Resolved Question: Will Obama make sure that people receiving free health care do not?

- Have cars they can not afford - 2k spinning rims on their cars - 52" HDTVs - Drink alcohol - Smoke - Go on Vacations - Go out to eat - Have internet and cable - Work 10 hours a week In case you have not noticed this list of luxuries can go on forever. Is the reality that at least half of the 42 million uninsured have decided not to make hearthrug a priority? I personally know people in my family without health insurance that have decided to roll the dice by placing health care below their home Entertainment system. more

Resolved Question: Money problems are making me suicidal.?

My bf is doing shift work and he hasn't had a shift in almost 1 month so we've been living off child and working tax credit and child benefit, around £130 p/w. Out of that we've been paying £70 rent p/w and 20 for gas and electric, Plus £10 put aside for the luxuries (internet and telephone), meaning we've had £30 a week to get the shopping for us both and our 2 y/o daughter and get us home from the shops, we walk there (1 hour) and taxi back (£5.50- £7.00). And this week we've had less money cos of the TV license needing renewing, we've paid off £40 and owe them £100, and to do that we've had to miss a payment on our phone, which isn't too drastic in the long run but in the here and now... Any way, it seems like every week we have where we can afford everything is followed by 2 weeks to a few months of having nothing, mainly cos of his work either cutting his shifts from 5 that he's supposed to have to 2 or not giving him them all together. I know that suicide is 'a long term solution to a short term problem' but this has been going on that long i'm finding it hard seeing the solution. we've already cut down to the bare minimum, I need the phone due to excessive illness and the internet so i can study while i'm at home from college ill. We've gone to citizens advice about his work and they told us that if he did quit and couldn't find another job (He is looking) we could end up with no money for 26 weeks as it'll be his fault, but that's if we applied for Job seekers. Now let me say i would NEVER try to take my life, not now i have a daughter (although i DO have a history of OD's and self harm, but only one has been reported and that was cos my mum found out), But i can't help feeling like i do. I know there is a lot of people out there a hell of a lot worse off then me, but it's soo hard trying to play happy and carefree with my daughter when on the inside I'm crumbling, and wearing a mask around my bf to try and hide it, I'm starting to think it's just making things worse. But how can i turn round to my bf who i love dearly and tell him that i'm not happy and every time i wake up i hope for a terrible accident that involves only me? Before i had my daughter, self harming was my coping mechanism, it'd stop me from wanting to kill myself. When i was watched for months to 'help me' by stopping it, i turned to the bottle and a fantasy 'world' i created when i was a child to get away from abuse, but neither drinking nor self harming is suitable, especially, as i've said, now i've got a daughter. And my fantasy world that used to be a safe haven has now turned into a sinister place where i can torture myself. I have no idea what to do to help myself and more importantly my daughter. Nothing about me seems sane anymore, it doesn't even seem safe.I'm terrified to go to my doc about this, I'm worried they'd see me as a threat to my baby (guess i'm paranoid as well) and take her off me, which would just finish me off. And when i have gone about my depression before i always downplay it, like it's nothing, i don't know why.Such a mature answer, My mum is an alcoholic who rings me every night pissed to tell me how my farther tried to beat me out of her. She was the whole reason i tried to kill myself in the first place. My bf got a crappy job so he could provide for me and my daughter (who he's bringing up since she was 2 months and is daddy to) and so i could go back to college, he tells me EVERY day that he loves me as i do him. and as told me on countless occasions that no matter how hard things get he will never let it effect me or our daughter, He tries so hard to do it as well. who should i live with?Thats my problem, i'm a pessimist, always have been. I try to look on the bright side but i can't, to me it doesn't seem logical to look at the world or my own situation and think 'this is bad but it will get better', i'm more like 'this is bad, it could get better this way but it will most likely get worse this way'Have you tried getting 'a proper job'? obviously not! He used to work for inland revenue and customs but his position was, expendable.Yea i know, my dad killed himself, it's where most of my problems start. he protected me from my mum when i was a child but he got cancer and i guess trying to fight that and protect me and himself from my mum just got too much for him. Not that she hit me or anything, she's just so, odd! one minute she can be the nicest most loving person you could meet and the next she's evil and manipulative and just a horrible horrible person. more

Resolved Question: When will Obama do anything for the 'little guy'?

Bailouts for banks and insurance companies. Federal bailouts and related spending proposed by the Obama Administration now total 8 trillion dollars, according to the American Institute for Economic Research. To pay for exploding federal spending, Obama’s Congressional allies are mulling huge tax increases. Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-Cal.) wants a 90 percent tax rate. Obama has spent more in his first 50 days, by far, than George Bush spent on the entire Iraq War. That includes a pork-filled $800 billion stimulus package that deceptively repealed welfare reform, and that the Congressional Budget Office admits will cut the size of America’s economy in the long run by exploding the national debt. The bailouts and new spending will benefit many undeserving people who are well-to-do. The Treasury Department’s recently announced mortgage bailout will bail out irresponsible mortgage borrowers with big homes, high incomes and normal mortgage payments, covering mortgages up to $729,750. People are suffering across much of the country, but not here in Washington, D.C., where the White House is throwing lavish parties and well-to-do residents are being enriched at taxpayer expense by Obama’s expansion of government. The expected hiring of up to 250,000 new bureaucrats by the Obama Administration is helping to prop up home values in Washington’s inner suburbs, while siphoning money out of less fortunate regions of the country. The bureaucrats’ pay will likely be much better than that of the far-more-numerous private sector employees whose jobs are being lost as a result of Obama’s deficit spending, which will crowd out private investment. Expensive restaurants and sellers of luxury goods in Washington, D.C. still seem to have plenty of business. My spend-thrift liberal neighbors, who have a second mortgage, are spending as conspicuously and prodigiously as ever. The $800 billion stimulus package also subsidizes groups that helped spawn the mortgage crisis, like ACORN, which promoted “liar loans” and engaged in financial fraud and vote fraud. An ally of ACORN, the Congressman Barney Frank, (D-Massachusetts) helped spawn the mortgage crisis by blocking needed reforms of the bankrupt government-sponsored mortgage giants, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and backing “affordable housing” mandates that resulted in risky mortgage loans. But now this hypocrite wants a one-sided inquisition into who caused the crisis! http://www.openmarket.org/2009/03/08/8-trillion-in-bailouts-undeserving-rich-benefit/ more

Resolved Question: How can Christians continue to enjoy the fruits of science if they despise it so much?

All the science-hating religious whack jobs out there who continue to suck down the benefits that science brings our society with a gluttonous madness, while simultaneously vomiting up every last ounce of bile they can belch about how science is evil, stupid and useless desperately need to be taught an object lesson. You hate science so much? Fine, then stop enjoying what it brings you. Don't get any vaccinations for yourself or your kids, in fact, don't get any medical treatment of any kind. Don't buy any food from supermarkets, don't wear clothes, don't drive a car, don't own any electronics, and don't live in a house or apartment building. Go out in the forest and kill small animals with your bare hands, making clothes out of their skins and your own waste, and go sleep in a tree, because science brought you all those luxuries. Religion didn't give you any of them. Religion would be perfectly happy for you to live like a caveman. If you think the science that brings you medical care, safe food and water, the engineering and construction that built your home, car, clothes, and all your electronics is different from the science that brings you cell theory, germ theory, gravity theory, and evolutionary theory, you are dead wrong. more

Resolved Question: Asking money from a parent you don't live with?

I need money for my holiday in Italy, I work parttime, but at the moment I don't have enough. I want to ask for money from my mother but the reality is we don't speak to eachother, and have nothing in common, she left me in my dads care when I was 7 years old (18 now). I only speak to her because she lives with my brother and my gran, she hasn't phoned me since I was 7 and plays NO significant part in my life. My dad is broke at the moment, and everyone is telling me I should ask my mother for the money because despite everything she is my parent and never gives me money or presents (even on my 18th birthday or Christmas). Do you think it's a good or bad idea to ask money from a parent who plays no part in your life? Friends and relatives are advising me to do so, because despite everything she is my mother and really, really well off. I would willingly pay her back as soon as I earn enough from my job. Pleh, I can't decide whether it's morally a bad idea or not! I only need enough for the hostel accomodation not for luxuries like souvenirs and spending money and I've already bought the flight tickets. Also may need some money for urgent things like University in September. I'm moving far away from my home, so I won't be able to keep my current part time job, there isn't a guarantee I would be able to find a new job. Sorry for ranting and sounding like I'm spilling my life story T__T Do you think I should ask my mother for the money or not? more

Resolved Question: Can I force my ex partner to pay money for our son?

Can I force my ex partner to pay money for our son even though he is living in Greece? We were together for 5 years and have a 4 year old son. We were so happy. We were living in Greece and decided to move back to Scotland where we both come from. I went with our son back to Scotland to set up home for us. I got us a house and started arranging everything. He was supposed to be selling our things in Greece and coming to join us. That was in July last year. He kept stalling, making excuses about why he wasn't back yet. 10 days before christmas he dropped a huge bombshell on me and told me he'd been cheating on me, with a girl I know there! He said he wasn't coming back. I was devastated. Its now been almost a year since he's seen our son, and he hasn't sent him any money at all. Not even one penny. Thanks to him I'm now a single mum with a 3 bedroomed house to keep and I'm struggling to get by and pay my bills. I'm working hard trying to provide for my son and we always have food and clothing.....just, but we can't afford to buy any luxuries. I'm really doing my best to try to make a new career to make our lives happier but its hard. Sometimes very hard. My son is very happy and settled and doesn't even mention his Dad anymore. The thing that upset me was today I heard from my ex partners girlfriend who enjoyed telling me how rich she is and how she owns 3houses and doesn't have to ask my ex for anything for her or her 3 kids. She also informed me that my ex can now save for the first time in his life (he now doesn't have a family to provide for she means) and she told me he is saving to buy them a piece of land and is building them a big house. I'm so devastated that he isn't providing for his son and is now happy because he has money to save! Can I make him give money for his son even though he is in Greece. I know his address and if not does he have a legal right to see his son if he refuses to provide for him and pay his way. I wanted him to be part of his sons life but he hasn't made any effort at all and has obviously moved on with his life. What should I do? more

Resolved Question: Single people living on income support?

How do you make ends meet? Ok, so I do not have to pay rent, or council tax, I am long term sick. When I moved to this flat my income halved overnight because I had no one caring for me and they thought that I was miraculously better! I wish. Simply had to get out of hostel where I was being threatened most nights by young drunken, drugged louts, me being the only woman. Locks were not an option - they kicked my door in because I would not give them money. I still have to pay water (I have not, and keep getting threatening letters!), I live in a 2 bed flat alone, we have all tried to get meters fitted but they say it will cost because of the lay out of the water mechanics. electricity that I am not using and the board refuses to give me a quote of how much I am in credit! I still paid £35 a week during the winter, now £20 without ever heating the flat, I just put on extra jumpers or hibernate in bed! I run a fridge and a freezer, all bulbs long life ones - one at a time except for a couple of minutes at bed time when I have to light myself to bed. I have two pieces of toast for breakfast, a couple of home made sandwiches for lunch - of which I am heartily sick, but food is important to a diabetic) which is not really enough. I grill or use a slow cooker, both cheaper than the oven for supper which I eat as late as possible to keep me going through the night. All my clothes come from charity shops, I do not have luxuries except a television - licence due at the end of the month, and I have no savings. And a radio. How do other people live? And for the record prostitution and any other illegal activity is out of the question. I am a Christian!Help - not very helpful. I was loaned this laptop, used only a couple of hours a day, and connection since the local library has now decided to charge £3 half hour! The government gives and the government taketh away! Need to be in constant contact with many people and saves a stamp for a letter which might or might not get where it is supposed to go on time!Hayley. There is a soup kitchen. I help to run it! Many of the boys who passed through my hostel use it. Bit awkward. Besides which .... Will e:mail you though. High rise flat - gas not allowed anyway! more

Voting Question: Home decor and remodeling ideas for a techie/geek?

I'm obsessed with any new techie toy I can get my hands on and am a self-proclaimed geek. I would like to integrate my interest and love of technology into the decor and and "theme" of my place as I remodel. I just moved in and am running low on ideas. Anyone have any cool recommendations? If it helps, I live in a dorm type layout, am female, and have my own room (even though there are roommates that share the commons but they're very lax on how I decorate). My budget is mid-grade (I am a student), and I do have the luxury of being able to paint my place, so if you could recommend colors too, that'd be awesome. Any websites with pics would be helpful as well. Thanks!!! more

Voting Question: How long does it take to heal from an inflamed chest wall?

After a stereotactic breast biopsy a procedure injured me. I have been diagnosed with an inflamed chest wall by a doctor other than the biopsy doctor. The pain is sharp. It's intense and sharp and is located immediately under my left breast. The doctor perscribed prednizone and pain medicine ( that doesn't help too much) and sent me home I guess because I don't have the luxury of being covered by health insurance. The 'haves' I do believe would go to he hospital. How long will it take for this pain to subside? more

Resolved Question: Stay at home or go back to work?

Hi everyone. I had a question. Before I got pregnant with my now 11 month old daughter, I was working fresh out of college with my bachelor. 6 months later, we were pregnant. I went on maternity leave at 8 months preggo and never went back. Husband and I decided for me to stay home with our baby. Well, we decided things were looking good financially and with our family so we decided to get pregnant again. As soon as I get pregnant (I am almost 6 weeks) things start falling apart. Our insurance sky rocketed so we put our daughter on medicaid. Hubby pulls in some overtime and my daughter is booted off medicaid! We are now in the process of trying to get her on kidcare (an alternative to medicaid) but cheaper than insurance. Unexpected bills just decide to POP up like always out of the blue. We have no luxury expenses except maybe cable...no car payments, nothing like that. Just the necessities and I keep deferring my student loans up until next year when I have no choice but to pay. Now I feel so guilty because I am the one with the degree and I am not using it. We felt strongly that the best for the kids would be for me to stay with them. We have no family to watch our kids so the alternative would be daycare...what do you guys think..? i am 20 and lived with my grandma when i was 19. i was moving to her house between semesters and therefore parked my car full of my things in her underground parking garage for christmas holidays while i was visiting my parents. she then went in my car (without my permission or knowledge) and put everything on the floor of the room i was going to be staying in. within one week of me moving in she started opening my closed bags and putting my things away while i was at school again without my permission or knowledge. since i knew she was just trying to help me out i relaxed about it but then she started folding up my artwork and writing on the backs of them. i wrote her a note politely explaining that it made me feel like my privacy was invaded when she went thorough my things so to please not do it anymore...she then phoned me, yelling at me, telling me i had to move out by the end of the day. while i was living there i went for roadtrips 2-3x/month to visit my best friend and she became bitter because she's so lonely. it actually worked itself out in cost to see her because i was in vancouver and she was in seattle--i had a free place to stay and the gas is significantly cheaper in the US so i would just fill up there for the week and i saved a lot of money because of this. my school was very time-consuming and she didn't understand this. what she means in her PS is that if i write her a letter saying "thanks for everything you taught me i love you you are great and 100% reasonable!" she'll give me the $5000 that she already gave my brother and sister for school ok now here is the letter: i find this the hardest letter i have written in my 85 years. it is only meant to help you in the future. i love you dearly, you are my grandchild, but i don't understand why you put your friends first. they are more important to you than your mother, father or relatives. you have to make yourself your first priority, you are working toward your future way of supporting yourself. you can't keep borrowing money as it takes too long to pay it back to the government. i know you are a very kind person, with a good heart. you helped your sister move, also several other friends move. you remind me of my step daughter she was always helping her friends. if you are a student with the luxury of a car, you can't expect your parents to pay your way, as they have to save for their old age when they can't work. my two had to earn their own way and it didn't hurt them. they both had good jobs. you three have had things too easy. when you live with someone else it is only right to ask if you can borrow their things like my casserole. i had to ask you twice for it after you took it to school. my pie pans well I never did get the back. its not what they cost its the principla of the fact you didn't bring back what you borrowed. i tried to help you put your things away off the floor. your things were mixed up like a dogs breackfast, papers, shoes, clothes, cans of food you name it. i spent hours trying to get some order and you just resented it. if you live with other folks you have to think of them also and keep your room in order this takes time, but it important to have your things in order. when you spill shampoo on furniture it takes the finish off you should have cleaned it up right away. you said you didn't have any privacy as far as i could see you hadn't earned it as things were in such a mess. also your car, you don't store wet towels in the trunk of your car. the time to do your washing is not two o'clock in the morning, as you want to go away to see your friends. you have to have a schedule one evening to wash one to tidy bup etc. etc. you know i didn't want you coming home in the morning from your friends in the US late for school. i made that very clear. i wanted you to come home monday night, no call, no nothing. i phoned your school you weren't there in class tuesday morning, then i was worried. there were other things and you know what they were. if you don't know how to work something ask you just don't go ahead and mess things up. if you make a mistake, damage something, say something to the owner. they will think more of you. you just go ahead and do what you want. the last three days you were here you seemed different seemed very happy guess you were happy you were getting ouf of here. i asked you if you would like some breackfast before you left you said no i am going to have breackfast with my friends in bellingham, then i will stay with my friends overnite and on to calgary. maybe it was hard to understand my way of thinking but when you are rooming at someones home you have to consider them as you will learn when you try to help your grand daughter. i felt i wasn't helping you at all, as it gave you more money to spend running around on the weekends in the us. i only want the best for you in life as you are a smart, pretty, kind person and am pointing out some things that may h more

Resolved Question: How can we get this house? Does anyone have any ideas?

My fiance and I bought a house. The house was selling for 479,000. We got it for 460,000. We went through the entire month and a half long process. We had it appriased and just found out the day before the closing date that the bank thinks the house is way too much money based on the comparables given fro the same location. Therefore, the bank denied the loan. The sellers were asked to come down in price to 410,000 but that is really asking a lot and the sellers arent willing to do that. We really want the house and are really in a bind since we have already have renters coming into our current townhouse and all the new furniture for the new house is on hold. We are willing to try anything to get this house. Any advice or ideas would be much appreiciated. I am sure this has happened to people a lot with todays market what have other people done to make it work since we are fine with paying 460,000 bc it is def what the house is worth since it is a luxury custom built home with all high end upgrades. The comparables had none of the things that made that house great yet they are still using the bad ones for comparables. Please help!!!! We are desperate! thanks more

Resolved Question: what would you do in this situation?

ok so i left my sat nav in my sisters car (shes 18 im 25) i only bought my sat nav on 28th may and it cost me 130 pounds. now this may not be alot but i have 2 young children and i am very pregnant so it is alot to me. any way today she went out with her mate and used my sat nav. rather than put my sat nav in her glove compartment when she went out of the car she took it with her and put it in her pocket. it then fell out of her pocket. the screen is now broke, granted you can still see most of the screen but it has turned really light and hazey and about a quarter of the screen id just black. she hasnt appologised and hasnt offered to buy me a new one, she is peeved of at me coz i am peeved that she did this. she says that she took it out of her car so it wouldnt get stolen, fair enough, but she keeps sayin its a bit broke but it still works fine and everythin and she is blaming my husband for me being peeved off, she thinks that when she told me on the fone i sounded fine. truth be known i am really really annoyed with her. i tried to tell her she didnt bother to look after it when she used it and its brand new ive only used it twice, she doesnt seem to have any remorse and thinks im in the wrong for being angry with her she thinks i should be ok with it coz its still just about usable. i want her to buy me a new one but she will just throw a hissy fit if i tell her to sayin how she cant afford it (although i dont know how coz she works , lives at home with our dad and the only thing she pays for is her car insurance and her mobile phone with obviously her luxuries) i am contemplating gettin my dad to have words coz i am too angry right now to tell her otherwise. what would you do in my situation and does anyone have any advice. (i did have a good relationship with my sister until now, until she didnt bother to appologise and since she doesnt realise that she has really upset me and im entitled to be upset and since she thinks its ok and not looking after my stuff) more
